Alina Velea took office as Music Exchanges Expert of International Relation Department of Radio Romania in October 2013. She is responsible for the development of the international exchange and cooperation activities. The aim of the music exchanges division is to improve the impact of EBU and ABU musical projects with Romanian audiences, creating a clear presence in the media’s marketplace.
Ms Velea joined the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation in 1997 as an editor in the Musical Department and has worked as a producer and programme editor. From 1997 to 2004, she was producer in the highly complex music sector, working with the four public channels (News, Cultural, Musical and Radio 3), then producer for the main EBU music programs broadcasted by Radio Romania Muzical until 2013, when she was appointed to her current position.
A journalist and musicologist, Ms Velea studied musicology at the Music University of Bucharest in Romania between1991–1996 and obtained a MA degree in 1997. As a musicologist, she writes about contemporary music in Eastern Europe and new performance practice. Her published work falls into the categories of music analysis and related performance practice, focusing on the twentieth century. Her articles on Romanian composers such as Dinu Lipatti and Anatol Vieru were published by Romanian Academy and Brasov University Press.
During the course of her career, Alina Velea has also worked as music critic. She has written for numerous publications both in and outside the Romania, and has interviewed dozens of classical artists, including renowned musicians such as Yuri Temircanov, Alexander Lazarev, Vassily Sinaiski, Ton Koopman, Lawrence Foster, Julia Fisher, Leonidas Kavakos, Nikolai Lugansky.
She is currently a member of the EBU/Euroradio Music Group and the Chairwoman of the EBU/Euroradio Notturno Group.
