Claudio Cappon obtained a degree in Economics with honours from the University of Rome and pursued several post-graduate specialized studies in Finance and Business strategies. His career has developed in various sectors of the Italian public industry, always in managerial positions. Between 1998 and 2002 he has been first Deputy Director General and then Director General of RAI. He has been reappointed Director General of RAI from 2006 to 2009.
In December 2009 he has been elected Vice President of European Broadcasting Union, a position that he has kept until December 2014.
Since April 2016 he is Secretary General of COPEAM (Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators), the organization working on media cooperation and co-productions in the Mediterranean Region comprising 70 members, among which 37 broadcasters.
In May 2018 Mr. Cappon has been appointed Chairman of JTI (Journalism Trust Indicators) Project, an initiative of Agence France Presse, the European Broadcasting Union, Reporters sans Frontières and the Global Editors Association to promote the definition of quality standards in the media.
Mr. Cappon is also professor at Sciences-Po University of Paris where he is “maitre de conference” of a course on “Public Service Media in Europe” and member of the board of “Roma Tre” University in Rome.
