Born 1968 in Kyoto, Japan, Mr. Koichi Okumura started his career in 1991 as a programme director at NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) after graduating from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo. His main focus was science and technology, and produced lots of programmes regarding Medicine, Space and Climate Change.
In 2016, he was transferred to NHK World Department, starting to work as an ABU Liaison Officer. He joined ABU GA in Bali, Indonesia in 2016 and in Chengdu, China in 2017 as part of the delegation of NHK.
In 2017, Koichi Okumura applied for the position of Director, ABU Programming. He started working at the ABU headquarter in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from February 2018. He is responsible for Radio, TV and New Media activities at ABU. He also organizes Programme Bureau and Programme Committee meeting during ABU GA and associated meetings.
